Would you like to use KOMPASS maps as a route map on your website or do you need a map section for a brochure for your company? Then you can easily purchase a map license for your desired map section. The license costs depend on the intended use, the map format and the quantity of the print products.

How to change user-information in the KOMPASS App:

1. Open the KOMPASS App
2. Tap on “Profile” in the menu bar
3. Tap on your profile picture or the pencil button
4. Tap on the displayed field to change the desired information

Note: If you chose the option “Sign in with Apple,” “Sign in with Google,” or “Sign in with Facebook” during registration, you cannot change the email address used.

How to change user-information directly on the KOMPASS website:

1. Log in to the KOMPASS website with your KOMPASS account
2. Click on your profile
3. Click on “Einstellungen”
4. Click on the displayed field to change the desired information

I have not yet registered in the KOMPASS App or on the website and do not have a KOMPASS account:

1. Open the KOMPASS App
2. To use the KOMPASS App, a KOMPASS account is required. Your tours, maps, etc., will be stored there. Tap on “Register” to create a new KOMPASS account.
3. Choose your username, enter your email address, and select a password. Remember the email address and password used as they are essential to access your account in the future.
4. Agree to the terms and conditions and tap on Register. Your account is now created and you will be already logged into the KOMPASS App. Alternatively, you can register via Facebook, Google, or Apple. The account will be created by the respective provider.

I have already registered and have a KOMPASS account:

1. Open the KOMPASS App
2. Tap on „Login“
3. Enter the email address and password of your KOMPASS account and tap on “Login”

If you are already using the app, you can log out at any time in your Profile. Note that logging out won’t delete your account or cancel your subscription. After logging out, tap on „Login“ again in „Profile“. You can log in again with the same or a different account.

Important Notes:

• Deleting your account is irreversible and cannot be undone.
• Ensure that you have canceled any existing PRO subscription before deleting your account. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an existing subscription.

If you wish to delete your KOMPASS account, follow these steps:

In the KOMPASS App

1. Open the KOMPASS App
2. Tap on “Profile“
3. Scroll down and select “Delete account.”

On the KOMPASS Website:

1. Log in to the KOMPASS website using your account credentials.
2. Click on your profile.
3. Navigate to settings (Einstellungen)
4. Click on „Mein Konto löschen“ (Delete my account)

The KOMPASS app cannot be used as a smartwatch app. This extension is not currently planned.

The language of your app depends on the system language set on your smartphone. If your system language is set to German, the app will automatically be displayed in German. If your system language is set to another language, the app will automatically be displayed in English. Please note that the language setting only affects the app menu and not the hiking content. A tour with a description in German will still only be available in German after setting the app language to English.

The KOMPASS App is available for download in the Google-Play-Store and the Apple Appstore. Click on the icon below to visit the store:

There are three ways to display the altitude of your position or a point in the KOMPASS app.

The Altitude for your current position

1. Open the KOMPASS app and tap „Map“ in the menu bar
2. Tap the GPS button
3. The map is centered around your location. A band appears at the bottom showing the coordinates and altitude for your current location.

2. Tap the tool button and start recording a new tour
3. The coordinates and altitude for your current location are automatically displayed in the menu

The Altitude of any point in the map

1. Open the KOMPASS app and tap „Map“ in the menu bar
2. Tap the point on the map for which you want to know the altitude and hold your finger briefly
3. A small menu will appear in which you can see the coordinates, altitude and other information.

We are happy to receive any corrections to our maps and products, as this allows us to continually improve our cartography and keep it up to date. You are welcome to send us your suggestions for improvements directly via our Contact Form. Our cartographers will incorporate your corrections accordingly.

You can redeem vouchers during the checkout while buying a PRO subcription on our website.

Log in with your KOMPASS account, select the desired package and click on „Kaufen/Buy“. In the following screen you have the option to redeem your voucher before payment.

ATTENTION: Vouchers for KOMPASS-Pro cannot be redeemed in the Google Play or Apple App Store.

3. Below your username, you will see your PRO status

1. Log in to the KOMPASS website with your KOMPASS account

3. Click on the package you want to buy and proceed to the purchase menu

The KOMPASS PRO subscription can be purchased either directly through our homepage or through the app store of the respective smartphone operating system (Apple App Store, Google Play Store). There are no differences in the subscription components. However, there are differences regarding the renewal of the subscription. 

If the PRO subscription was purchased through our homepage, it ends after the purchased duration (1 month, 3 months, or 12 months). The subscription does not automatically renew and does not need to be canceled. The subscription must always be purchased again to activate the PRO membership.

If the PRO subscription was purchased in the app or in the App Store/Google Play Store, the subscription automatically renews at the end of the chosen duration. You can only cancel the contract in your App Store or Google Play Store, adhering to the respective notice period. We are not authorized to terminate the contracts between you and Apple or Google.

To view and, if necessary, cancel your ongoing subscriptions, open your App Store/Google Play Store. Tap on your profile and select the “Subscriptions” tab.

In the KOMPASS App:

Your purchased PRO membership is assigned to your KOMPASS account immediately after purchase. Make sure you are logged in with the correct account in the app.

You may subscribe to KOMPASS PRO directly in the KOMPASS app via the Google-Play-Store or Apple-App-Store. There you can use the available payment methods of the given store.

NOTE: If you purchase a subscription through the Google Play or App Store, it will automatically renew upon expiration until canceled. You can find more information directly in your devices store.

On our website, you can subscribe to KOMPASS PRO for a fixed period. The payment provider Stripe is available here, offering all common payment methods (PayPal, Klarna, Visa, Mastercard, Online Banking, SEPA Direct Debit).

NOTE: If you purchase a membership through our website, it will not automatically renew upon expiration. You will need to renew it again after the term ends.

The KOMPASS app automatically points out interesting places and sights (POIs = points of interest) in the visible map area. As a PRO user, these hints can be deactivated.

4. Deactivate „Automatic POI hints“

Magnetic declination/magnetic variation is the angle between magnetic north and true north at a particular location on the Earth’s surface.
Our maps do not show the magnetic declination. The angle can change over time due to polar wandering. To obtain the current declination value of a location, we recommend using available magnetic declination calculators. Please note that local geological conditions can cause larger deviations from the values ​​given:

KOMPASS hiking maps with the red “Map” icon on the cover can be unlocked in the KOMPASS app. This allows you to access the digital map of the area.

Unlocking a map in the KOMPASS App:

1. Open the KOMPASS app, tap on „Unlock product“
2. Scan the barcode on your map or enter the printed unlock code.
3. Your map will be unlocked.
   

How can I use my printed hiking map offline?

1. Open the KOMPASS app
2. Make sure you have unlocked your hiking map in the app correctly
3. Tap „Profile“ in the menu bar
4. Tap on „My (offline) maps“. Your unlocked and created maps are listed here.
5. Tap the switch for the map you want to download.
6. Wait until the download is complete. Do not close the app. Maps where the switch is green and do not have a ongoing download have been downloaded successfully.

How do I open my downloaded offline map?

1. Open the KOMPASS app
2. Make sure you have correctly downloaded your hiking map
3. Tap „Profile“ in the menu bar
4. Tap on „My (offline) maps“. Your unlocked and created maps are listed here.
5. Tap the downloaded map to open it.

You may additionally display your maps directly in the general map.

1. Open the KOMPASS app
2. Tap “Map”
3. Tap the layers icon
4. Scroll down and activate the switch for “My Maps”
5. Your maps and their boarders will be displayed as red rectangles at their given location of the map.

How can I use the PRO hiking map offline?

As a KOMPASS Pro, you can decide which parts of the map you need and want to use offline. With the “Download this area” feature, you can create and download as many map sections as you like. Note that this only works for areas where the digital hiking map is available.

1. Open the KOMPASS App
2. Tap on “Map” in the menu bar
3. Make sure the PRO hiking map layer is active
4. Tap on the three dots
5. Select “Download” or “Download this area”
6. You can now move the map around and zoom as you wish. The exact part of the map you see on the screen will be downloaded.
7. Tap on “Download”
8. Give the map a name and tap “Download” again

How do I open my downloaded offline map?

1. Open the KOMPASS App
2. Tap on “Profile” in the menu bar
3. Tap on “My (offline) maps”. Your unlocked and created maps are listed here.
4. Tap on the downloaded map to open it.

‌Additionally, you can also display your loaded maps directly on the overall map.

4. Scroll down and activate the “My maps” option
5. The your individual maps will now be displayed directly at their position.

To browse our maps, we have developed our KOMPASS product finder.

Just like with the tours, you can also search for our books and maps in a region. Simply move the map to the region that interests you and click on “Search here”. The found products will be displayed, and we will show you which digital extensions a product offers:

• GPX: Download the GPX data of the tours in your hiking book
• Tours: Access and offline usage of the tours in your hiking book
• Map: Activation of the hiking map for the corresponding map area

In the KOMPASS App:

A complete description of the trails and paths and a full map legend can be found directly in the map within the KOMPASS App.

General information:
The most common trail-types are marked like this:

cycling routes: green solid lines
hiking paths: red solid lines
trails: red dashed lines
climbs: red dotted lines

Note: To get unlimited access to our complete hiking map you need an active PRO membership.

Downloading or unlocking a map can occasionally cause loading issues in the app. If this error occurs, the map will not load correctly, and the map screen will remain blacked out.

If your map screen is not loading correctly, follow these steps:

1. Open the KOMPASS app.
2. Select “Map” in the menu bar.
3. Tap the „three-dot button“ and select “Download  this area“ or „Download”
4. Zoom in slightly on the map to reduce the download size (the size or location of the map is not relevant to fixing the problem).
5. Tap “Download”
6. Give the map a name and select “Download” again.
7. Close the app and restart it. The map screen should now be displayed correctly.

By refining our hiking maps with weatherproof and tear-resistant lamination, we achieve significantly longer durability. This extended lifespan greatly reduces environmental impact.‌Exceptions are only made for map sets and oversized maps. These sets cannot be laminated due to cost reasons, as the price of a map set would otherwise increase significantly.

If you have a new hiking map in a quality which you are not completely satisfied, we kindly ask you to send it to us. The map will be inspected by our print department, and your hiking map will be replaced accordingly.

How to unlock a KOMPASS product with a digital extension

If you have purchased a KOMPASS product and see the note “App” or “mit App” (with app) on the cover, you can unlock it in the app to access the included tours.

1. Open the KOMPASS App
2. Tap on „Unlock product“
3. Scan the barcode on your product or enter the printed code
4. Your product will be unlocked

How to open an unlocked product in the KOMPASS app:

1. Open the KOMPASS App
2. Go to your profile
3. Tap on „My Products“
4. Your unlocked KOMPASS products will be listed; select the desired product to open it.

Most KOMPASS products come with a digital extension. All products with a digital extension feature a note (usually found on the cover, back, or initial pages of the book) indicating the specific extension.

Currently, we offer three types of digital extensions:

1. Unlocking the map area of a printed hiking map
2. Unlocking a book and its included Tours with descriptions
3. Providing the gpx-tracks for tours or cycling routes for download

Please note that while many books and maps include GPX data as a digital extension, they may not include tour descriptions within the app.

1. Log in to the KOMPASS website with your KOMPASS Account
2. Click on your profile
3. Click on “My Tours”
4. Your tours will be displayed as a list
5. Click on the share button next to the desired tour to download or directly send the tour as a GPX file
6. You can now share the downloaded file
   

When planning a tour, each click or tap on the map sets a point. The first point is always your starting point (A). When you set the next point, it becomes your destination point (B). If you set another point after that, you’ve set a new goal.
The previous destination then becomes a waypoint (waypoints are represented without a letter).

Here’s an example of a tour where we’ll use waypoints:

We are planning a tour from the Hungerburg parking lot to Seegrube (red circles). On our hike we want to head for two stops as waypoints (black circles).

1. Click on the parking lot = Starting point (A).
2. Click on the first stop = Waypoint 1 (This point is now displayed as the destination. Once we set another point, it becomes a waypoint).
3. Click on the second stop = Waypoint 2.
4. Click on Seegrube = Destination point (B).

Now we’ve planned a tour from the parking lot Hungerburg to Seegrube, with two stops as waypoints.

1. Log in to the KOMPASS website with your KOMPASS account
2. Click on your profile
3. Click on “Meine Touren”
4. Click on the three dots next to the tour you want to edit
5. You can choose whether to „Track bearbeiten“ or „Infos bearbeiten“
   • In „Infos bearbeiten“, you can change the name, type of tour, and add pictures
   • In „Track bearbeiten“, you can modify the tour path by clicking and dragging, adding new way- or planning points or even recalculate the elevation data of the tour

How to import a GPX track in the KOMPASS App:

1. Ensure that the GPX file you want to import is saved on your smartphone.
2. Open the KOMPASS App
3. Tap on “Map” in the menu bar
4. Tap on the tools button
5. Tap on “Import GPX”
6. Your smartphones file manager will open. Look for the file you want to import
   • Most smartphones have a search function in the file manager. Tap on the search icon and search for “GPX”
7. Tap on the GPX file
8. Give the tour a name or add pictures. Then tap on “Save Tour
9. Your GPX track has been imported and saved as a tour

Note: An active internet connection is required to save the tour. If you are in an area without an internet connection, wait to save until an internet connection/Wi-Fi is available.

How to open imported GPX tracks:

1. Open the KOMPASS App
2. Tap on “Profile” in the menu bar
3. Tap on “My Tours”
4. Tap on “Planned”
5. Your imported GPX tracks are listed here. Tap on the recently saved tour to open it

How to import a GPX track on the KOMPASS website:

1. Ensure that the GPX file you want to import is saved on your device
2. Log in to the KOMPASS website with your KOMPASS account
3. Click on “+ Neu”
4. Click on „GPX-Datei importieren“
5. Drag the GPX file into the field or search for it using „Datei auswählen“
6. Choose whether the file should be saved as a planned or completed tour and click „Weiter“
7. Give the tour a name and select whether it is a hiking or biking tour. Then click „Tour speichern“
8. Your GPX track has been imported and saved as a tour
   

How to open imported GPX tracks:

1. Log in to the KOMPASS website with your KOMPASS account
2. Click on your profile
3. Click on “Meine Touren”
4. Click on the recently saved tour to open it

The planning a tour – tool uses data from external sources. All automatically generated tour routes are suggestions. The feasibility of the tour suggestions must always be checked on site and, if necessary, with additional local information. All instructions and prohibitions on site must be followed.
The use of external data may result in graphical deviations between the automatically generated route and the route shown on the KOMPASS maps. This results from deviations in the exact location of paths and trails in the real world and our generalized  KOMPASS maps. These deviations may result in paths and trails shown on the KOMPASS map to not be taken into account when planning tours.

Planning a tour in the KOMPASS App:

2. Ensure you have an active KOMPASS PRO membership. Unlimited tour planning is a KOMPASS PRO feature.
3. Tap on “Plan a tour”.
4. Tap on the map or tap on “My position” or “Search” to set the starting point of your tour
5. Tap on the map to set waypoints and the endpoint of your tour
6. Tap on “Done”. When you are satisfied with your tour
7. Give the tour a name and add photos, a description, or features
8. Tap on “Save Tour” to save the tour.

Note: An active internet connection is required to save and upload the tour. If you are in an area without an internet connection, wait to save until an internet connection/Wi-Fi is available.

Opening a planned tour in the KOMPASS App:

1. Open the KOMPASS App
2. Tap on “Profile” in the menu bar
3. Tap on “My Tours”
   • Under “Tracked”, you will find your recorded tours
   • Under “Planned”, you will find your planned tours
4. Tap on “Planned”
5. Tap on the tour you want to open
6. Tap on “Tour map”. The tour will open its map and route

Planning a tour on the KOMPASS website:

1. Log in to the KOMPASS website with your KOMPASS account
2. Ensure you have an active KOMPASS PRO membership. Unlimited tour planning is a KOMPASS PRO feature
3. Click on „+ Neu“
4. Click on „Tour planen“
5. Click on the map or tap on “Meine Position” or “Suche” to set the starting point of your tour
6. Click on the map to set waypoints, planning points and the endpoint of your tour
7. Click on “Fertig”. When you are satisfied with your tour
8. Give the tour a name and add photos, a description, or features
9. Click on “Speichern” to save the tour

Opening a planned tour on the KOMPASS website:

1. Log in to the KOMPASS website with your KOMPASS account
2. Click on your profile
3. Click on “Meine Touren”
4. Click on the tour you want to open

Recording a tour in the KOMPASS App:

1. Ensure you have a stable GPS connection
2. Make sure the power-saving mode on your device is disabled. An active power-saving mode can degrade the quality of the GPS connection
3. Open the KOMPASS App
4. Tap on “Start a track”
5. In the recording menu, tap on “Start”. Your location and movement will be recorded.
6. When your tour is finished, tap on “Finish”.
7. Give the tour a name and add photos, a description, or features.
8. Tap on “Save Tour” to save the tour.

Note: An active internet connection is required to save the tour. If you are in an area without an internet connection, wait to save until an internet connection/Wi-Fi is available.

Opening a recorded tour:

1. Open the KOMPASS App.
2. Tap on “Profile” in the menu bar.
3. Tap on “My Tours”.
   • Under “Tracked”, you will find your recorded tours.
   • Under “Planned”, you will find your planned tours.
4. Tap on the tour you want to open.
5. Tap on “Map”. The tour will open in the map.

1. How do I download a tour?

   1. Open the KOMPASS App
   2. Navigate to the tour you want to use offline
      • A self-created tour or a GPX import can be found in your profile in “My Tours“
      • Tours from an unlocked product can be found in your profile in “My Products”
      • With a KOMPASS PRO membership, you can use all available KOMPASS tours. Browse „Tours” in the menu bar or check all our digital tour-collections in “Products”
   3. Open the tour
   4. Tap on “Download”. Once successfully downloaded, the download icon will be replaced with a green checkmark.

   

   How do I open my downloaded tour?

   1. Open the KOMPASS App
   2. Navigate to the tour you have downloaded.
      • Downloaded tours are displayed in your profile under „Offline tours & favorites“.
      • A self-created tour or a GPX import can be found in your profile in “My Tours“
      • Tours from an unlocked product can be found in your profile in “My Products”
   3. Tap the tour and tap on „Map“
   4. The downloaded tour map and tour track are now active in the map.

If your tours are recorded inaccurately, check if your smartphone’s power-saving mode is activated.

An active power-saving mode can significantly limit the accuracy of the GPS signal, and we recommend deactivating it when using the KOMPASS app.

Note: Some smartphones have an automatic battery-saving function that can activate for apps without the users knowledge. This can lead to the GPS signal being limited or completely disabled at times for the KOMPASS app. Check the power-saving settings on your smartphone and deactivate any active settings for the KOMPASS app.

Additionally check the app permissions for your KOMPASS app. We recommend setting the permission for „Location“ to „Always“ or „While Using“. In our experience, this achieves the best results.
